The Historic U.S. Highway 395 was designated a historic route through California with the passage of The Assembly Concurrent Resolution 98 on July 8, 2008. The historic designation did not provide funds for signs to be installed along the route. It would be up to the counties, the cities, the communities, and individuals to work together in raising awareness and funds to install the signs. Since 2008, over 100 signs have been installed, many through groups, family and individual donations. Together we can work together to preserve and promote this historic route.
The Historic Route 395 Association was founded on December 4, 2010. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the highway's historic designation, to educate about its history and significance, and to assist organizations and individuals in preserving the highway through the installation of designated signs. Our goal is to see signs installed from the city of San Diego to the summit of the Cajon Pass.
If you would like to donate a sign or signs, please follow our guidelines, and together we can preserve an important piece of our past that binds us together along this ribbon of highway. Thank you.
